This video represents a major departure from my usual way of doing things. I didn’t do any planning, didn’t gear everything to conveying some pre-determined “point” that was the inspiration for sharing my ideas with a hoped-for audience of people who care about such ideas.
Feeling under stress (for some reasons I share about my own life, as well as for reasons that weigh on everyone who cares about the survival of American Democracy), I just let ‘er rip here on this video. Not quite “stream of consciousness,” but letting myself be free to follow the unfolding of my thoughts and feelings wherever they might lead.
Openly sharing myself— as if I were confident that people can relate to how I feel, that openness of heart and mind will connect with others with hearts and minds of their own, that people will be interested in looking at our troubled world through my eyes.
I don’t have that confidence, but this past Thursday I felt a need to pretend that I do. And when the video was completed, I thought that perhaps this extemporaneous thing had worked — i.e. that the result actually hangs together, that the ideas about the American crisis, and about The Fate of Human Civilization got interwoven into a somewhat coherent picture that people might find illuminating. Coherent — and charged with feeling — from my engaging with that picture passionately for more than half a century, because I yearn so strongly for the better of our human potentialities to govern our world. (And how painful it is to have so profound a set-back as having America hand the Presidency to Donald Trump rather than Kamala Harris.)
I invite you to check it out.
For a systematic (written) presentation (polished rather than extemporaneous) of an integrated understanding of the forces embattled over the fate of human civilization -- of which the present battle in America between Democracy and Fascism is a part -- please take a look at my website, A BETTER HUMAN STORY.
