The Republican Version of Omerta

“Omerta” is the name of the Mafia’s Code of Silence. One doesn’t rat to the police about anything that would help them defeat the force of organized crime.

Today, in American politics, the criminal organization is the Republican Party. The Republicans have committed to defend at all costs the Republican President whose lawlessness sets the tone and policy for the Party.

But these members of organized crime — the Republicans, who have chosen to be the Trump Party — can’t just follow a code of silence because they are politicians, who stay “alive” by winning elections, and the verdict that matters to both sides is from public opinion.

So instead of the Omerta of the Mafia, which demands silence, we have the Omerta of the Republicans, who — in this impeachment process — talk continually, loudly, and always in bad faith in order to protect the criminal organization, and the gangster at its head, by spewing forth a stream of lies to deceive the electorate.

The two Omertas differ because each is designed to meet the different of its own arena. But the two Omertas are the same in having as their purpose defeating the rule of law, and advancing the power of the criminal organization.
