Does the Dems' Early Voting Lead Blunt the Danger of Trump Exploiting Election Night Numbers?

Two things stand juxtaposed— one being a threat Democrats have worried about, the other being good news for Democrats. I’m wondering if the second provides good protection against the first.

1) The danger that has been discussed for some while is that

  • with polls showing that Democrats lean strongly toward mail-in voting and Republicans much more toward voting on Election Day, and
  • with a President who virtually daily demonstrates a willingness to cheat in any way he can to avoid defeat,
  • on Election Night Trump will declare victory on the basis of the quickly tallied Election-Day votes, while the piles of mail-in votes remain to be counted— and by that means gain a momentum that will cloud the real results.

Juxtaposed with that...

2) The good news for Democrats is that, in the words of Daily Kos blogger, Aldous J. Pennyfarthing, “Democrats have built enormous lead in early voting across ‘array of battleground states.” (He is citing a Politico story.)

Does that mean that the numbers that we see on Election Night will not favor Trump, as feared? That question might be broken down into these two: first, will votes castearly by mail also be counted early? And if so, will the numbers of votes involved — with early voting (by mail and/or in person) — be sufficient to offset that anticipated preponderance of Trump voters voting in person on Election Day?
