Not much needs to be said to establish that:
The Dems might still pull it out, but the futures market and the polls show that an election that seemed to be quite favorable for yet another Democratic sweep of statewide offices in Virginia are now — in the case of the race for governor — a toss-up.
It seems pretty clear to expert observers that the deterioration of the Democrats’ standing is the result of the failure of the Democrats in Washington to deliver the goods they were all primed to accomplish. And would have accomplished except for those two Senators, who have fully exploited the fact that any Senator can thwart the accomplishment of Biden’s ambitious agenda.
What might have been a spectacular achievement has become a disappointing spectacle.
Because of Sinema and Manchin, the vote in Virginia might transfer power from a decent Democrat with proven competence in favor of a Republican willing to join in the assault on our Democracy supporting Trump’s Big Lie.
Because of Manchin and Sinema, the Democrats and President Biden have dropped in the polls, a development that threatens to hand power back to a Party that is now nakedly bidding to overthrow our Constitutional order, and bring the noble American experiment from the 18th century to enable a people to govern themselves, as a free people.
It could not be more obvious that this is not a situation in which the President’s leadership should be thwarted, when complete unity is required to accomplish anything. It could not be more unforgiveable for Senators to use their power like Manchin and Sinema have, with destructive effects we may see come to pass at the expense of my state of Virginia.
The Democrats have used their years of governing Virginia to make great progress on many fronts. If that progress is stalled, or worse still, reversed, the history books shall record the conduct of Manchin and Sinema in the pages of Infamy.
