A Series of Ads the Democrats Should Run

The series almost writes itself.

It starts with videos that show dramatically some big problem we face:

  • A video that captures the nightmare of America’s plague of mass-killings because we are unique among advanced societies in how easy we make it for almost anyone to buy weapons superbly designed for mass-killings.
  • A video that shows the gathering catastrophe of climate disruption, with wildfires in the West and exceptional hurricanes hitting the Southeast.
  • The attack on the Capitol in the Insurrection — the attempted coup d’etat that the 1/6 Committee will be describing — dramatizing the ongoing assault on American democracy.

With a voice-over that concludes with words that connect the vivid thing in the video, which evokes emotion in the viewer, with what the Republicans’ role is in perpetuating the problem.

And ending with some kind of message whose import is, “For the sake of … vote the Republicans out of power so we can solve our problems.”

With a defined genre of such videos, played often on these three themes and likely some others (like across the board obstruction at a time when the nation has a historic opportunity to get some good things done), the viewer can get a cumulative sense of the most fundamental truth about this political moment in America:

One of America’s two major parties — the Republican -- has become a serious threat to the nation’s well-being, and must be stripped of its powers to do damage.
