The Democrats should be working hard now to fashion a messaging campaign to have the maximal achievable impact on the American electorate, getting as many Americans as possible to understand that the real issue in the 2024 election is between Democracy and Fascism. And moving those people to rally to the defense of those basic values — like that the government expresses the will of the people, and like the Rule of Law — on which the United States was founded. And to understand that voting for President Biden — and rejecting Donald Trump — is what everyone who favors Democracy must do.
This messaging campaign should be designed to culminate in a “Speech for the Ages” to be delivered, on national television, at the Democratic National Convention in August.
Conveying that successfully to the American people is the main road to victory in the election this November— because the majority of Americans, if they understand the real stakes in this election, will vote for Biden. A big enough majority, in fact, that success in that messaging campaign could result in such a blow-out that the Republican Party — which has become the Trump Party -- could be driven into oblivion. either compelled to transform itself back into a normal American party, or being replaced by a new conservative party.
It is not too soon to begin designing and executing this effort to bring as many Americans as possible into a recognition of the dangerous realities of this moment.
