This wide-ranging discussion begins with something topical: the “political hit job” that Trumpy Special Prosecutor Hur did on President Biden. And it goes into the lamentable role that AG Merrick Garland played in making that possible. (And from there into how Garland’s weakness in this — and in shrinking from going after the people behind the 1/6 Insurrection until his hand was forced — exemplifies a weakness that has been chronic in Liberal America (and its political wing, the Democratic Party) over the thirty years that this Force of Fascism has been taking over Conservative America.)
From that beginning, the exploration goes into a variety of topics relevant to my “Mission,” which is to convey an integrated way of understanding the forces at work in the human world. I call it A BETTER HUMAN STORY, and it helps illuminate both 1) the battle between Democracy and Fascism in America (and more globally) in these times, and 2) the challenge humankind faces to develop a human civilization that can survive for the long haul rather than end our species’ story with some self-inflicted catastrophe.
This American crisis is best understood as our immediate battlefield in a struggle humankind has been facing since our species took the step — unprecedented in the history of Life-on-Earth — onto the path of civilization.
It’s a way of understanding that I believe would increase our chances of winning that battle, because it clarifies WHAT WE’RE UP AGAINST and what we have to do to defeat the destructive forces at work in the world. (I’ve been raising the alarm about this rising force of Fascism since 1992, and addressing it full-time since 2004. Which suggests how this BETTER HUMAN STORY clarifies what’s happening, and what’s required of us to meet the challenge.
(I am sufficiently confident that this BETTER HUMAN STORY can be helpful as we strive toward a better human future that I was willing to take the risk, some months back, here on Daily Kos, to introduce the presentation of some of the main ideas in this integrated perspective with a piece titled, “Introduction to a "Big Picture" View that Might Help Human Civilization (and Our Democracy) Survive.” Chutzpah, yes, but because I really believe that to be true I feel compelled to call attention to it in that way. Part of feeling like “A Man on a Mission.”)
